On 13 December 2016, despite his two years of remaining contract with Castleford Tigers, it was confirmed that Denny had retired from rugby league. He was actually supposed to switch to rugby union and join Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership. The move gave rise to a legal dispute and the outcome of which cost Castleford  $240,000 in compensation.

However, On 29 March 2017, Denny came back on the tracks. Having enjoyed a productive start to his career with Sale Sharks(10 tries in 11 appearances), Solomona stated himself available for international selection with England. He was allegedly called up to the international England squad by Eddie Jones for their 2017 tour to Argentina. The talented Denny came on as a sub in the opening test and scored the winning try on his debut.

He has tried to get across the fact that it's perfectly normal for men and boys to be vulnerable and that they can be comfortable speaking when they aren't feeling great about themselves. Solomona now emphasizes more on outdoor activities like enjoying walks with his dogs through the famous Lakes District and seems very personal about his life.
